Chapter 3
Internal Revenue Service
Diane freshened up and preceded to the department chair’s office, Henry Wilson greeted her at the door hand outstretched.  A slight smile on his face he greeted her, “Come in, come in, have a seat, how was your meeting with Ms. Winchester, rattled you a bit I suppose, I saw you in there and figured I’d give you an escape route.” “But really, how are you doing in the field with Kurt? We need good people in the field! But we need good people here coordinating their efforts too!” I just want you to know your work has not gone unnoticed. He paused for a breath. Diane quickly blurted “we’re doing fine out there. Kurt is okay in his own way, and he gets the tape, he does get good tape. We’ll crack this case soon, I’m sure! “As I expect” Henry said, “wrap this one up, put a bow on it and then come see me. The battle-axe is due to retire anytime soon and we’ll need someone ready and field tested, if you know what I mean”. “I believe I understand” she replied.
Henry started talking about himself and how he got to his position and droned on and on. At one point Diane stood up and admired the large leafed plant, caressing it gently as she replied “Oh, now that’s interesting.” She bent down to feel a smaller plant and thought, “I just might get this promotion soon. He’s handsome enough and dresses well, but he’s just too old and stuffy. Yuck, I can’t take too much more of him." Saved by the bell, the phone interrupted him, it was Ms. Winchester reminding him Diane needed to be at the sensitivity meeting at 9:30.  Henry stood up and got the door as she left, ending the meeting with “Remember, call me! Now go, I don’t envy you going to your next meeting. So boring!”
