Chapter 1
It all started in the desert.
     "Are you buying that?" the cashier said. "Oh, sorry, umm yeah," he said. "Just when are you going to get a card like everybody else," she said as he handed her the money. "Soon, soon," he said, "just when are you going to tell me you won't take cash?" "Soon, soon", she replied and they both chuckled.   
     Joe walked home. He didn't own a car or even a driver’s license. He couldn't, he really didn't really have a name or a home. He took the name Joe Smith in an effort to be discrete. He didn't want to stand out or be noticeably different until he found out what his past was like. That's been over 2 years now. As far as home goes, well he lives in an office in the building he rents. He rents the space to run a small computer repair business. The owner of the building is not very friendly but doesn't really care what goes on as long as he's paid, on time and in cash. So, Joe works, eats and sleeps in a little town called Hope, always working on learning who he is and where he's from.
