Diane pulled her car into the parking garage and parked near an exit. She checked her makeup and reapplied her perfume. A great mixture of Gas, oil and Chanel No. 5, she thought. She would walk the two blocks to the van. Click, click, click, her high heels echoed in the ramp. As she turned onto the sidewalk it was apparent that she was somewhat overdressed for this part of town. It wasn't a bad section of Hope, there were no bad sections in Hope. It just wasn't the downtown area where she would fit in better. She really didn't care. She dressed professionally. She dressed overly professionally. She looked great and she knew it. No more of the jeans and sweatshirts that she was recommended to wear, no, she had been passed up on too many of the recent promotions, simply for blending in too well, she figured. I'm done sitting in that stuffy van with Kurt all day, it's time for a change she thought.
She casually looked around as she approached the van, then, opened the door, looked over her shoulder and stepped up into the dark space. It was lit only by the many LCD lights on the equipment.
"Late again," Kurt said as she settled into her seat. "Let me guess? The car was making that noise again, right?" Kurt wasn't really upset with her being late. He was right at home in this mess of technology. "I told you to bring it over to my place some weekend and I'd take a look at it." he reminded her. He didn't seem to notice or care that she was ignoring him. "Geez, Kurt, what are you looking at with my equipment?" She squawked back changing the subject. "Wait, you were watching me the whole way from the garage?" "What the hell?" "Gotta keep an eye on my partner," he offered. "Just leave my station alone", she demanded, "This will take me all morning to get back straightened out." "I'll help you", he said. "No", she quickly replied.
The rest of the morning was spent quietly as Diane reoriented all her equipment as Kurt  scanned the area. This work was all taking place in a common looking white van that said Hope Restaurant Supplies on the side. The large lens was almost undetectable hidden in the "o" in Hope.
