Chapter 4
Smith and Wesson
Diane left the van and marched down the street towards the computer repair store. As she walked, she began to regain her composure and began to ease her stride. It’s actually a beautiful day she thought, I really hadn’t noticed how nice it is out here. Smiling she wondered if he was watching her walk towards his store and her gate smoothed even more. Oh yeah, she thought, just an ordinary person walking down the street, clack, clack, clack, an ordinary person in a great looking dress. Her smile widened.
Diane opened the door and walked in. As she approached the counter, she noticed his smile. He has a very nice smile she thought, he’s actually very good looking too. “Problem with your laptop” he asked as she held it out for him. “It won’t start up,” she answered. “I can look at it tonight,” he replied, “I have a few others to fix in front of it.” Unless you need it right away! I can prioritize it for you if you want! No, she said, it’s important and all, but I can wait and pick it up Monday? “Great” he stammered; “I look forward to seeing you Monday.” “Just one minute and I’ll get you a ticket.” He said as he took it into the back office. He wrote Pretty Girl on a piece of tape and affixed it to her lap top, realizing that he hadn’t even remembered to ask her what her name was. I’ll remember pretty girl he thought to himself.
Joe quickly returned and handed her the ticket. “I forgot to ask your name,” he said. “For the ticket, you know” he stumbled. That’s okay, it’s Diane, Diane Wesson, w, e, s, s, o, n. I’ll be back Monday, see you then!” she said, as she wheeled and headed towards the door. “Let me get that” said Joe as he hurried to beat her to the door. He opened it, held it and said “Have a nice afternoon!” “Thank you she smiled back, “Thank you very much.”
As she walked towards the van, she decided she was going to have a nice afternoon. Walking right past the van she headed for the parking garage. I’m going to go buy a new dress she thought, that’s enough work for today, I need to buy a dress, yes, a new dress for Monday. She continued walking, knowing that both of them were watching her.
