Chapter 5
Diane got up to think about what to do. Should she tell him? And if yes, how? “Do I come clean from the beginning,” she thought. First, I have to clear him and end this investigation. Then maybe? “Wait,” she pondered, Joe has never touched me.” She thought hard, he has never even brushed against me. He has been a perfect gentleman this whole time. She sat down with a glass of wine. Did I just ruin the first time we hold hands, she wondered, and the first kiss, oh no, oh no, you aren’t doing this to me. You are not ruining this for me as she looked at the unread novel. I’ll fix this! This can be fixed! I sure hope it can be fixed.
On Thursday, Diane wrote the final report for the surveillance. The report focused on the fact that he didn’t have very many customers. She turned the spotlight on the man who collected the rent as opposed to Joe. She highlighted the fact that the rent collector came and went only caring about the envelope, and didn’t concern himself with what was going on, or the management. She concluded that the store was at break even if that, and that the business wasn’t even a business at all, and was better classified as a hobby. There she thought to herself, this should get them off of investigating Joe. The IRS did not like to waste time and money on a situation that didn’t have any money that they could demand or seize.
She sent a copy of her report with the attached files and videos to Ms. Winchester, and blind carbon copied it to Henry, for good measure.
