Chapter 5
Cutting the Tape
Joe’s week went slow, Customers came and left but nothing of note happened. Joe did have the music box to look at and listen to. It reminded him of the upcoming Friday date and gave him reason to smile.
Kurt on the other hand was busy. He had gone to a ballgame, visited the bar, ordered pizza for a movie he watched and in general screwed off. Now, he had to get to work writing a report for Ms. Winchester. I got this easy he thought, she likes me, girls usually like me he mused. He wrote how everything went smoothly, how he got the tape, and how well him and Diane worked together. Everything went smoothly he wrote; I hope we have a chance to work together again soon!
It was almost ten o’clock when Diane was awake enough to get back into the tapes. It was on the way to the desk, carrying a fresh cup of coffee, that she noticed a tape that had fallen onto the floor. It was marked “Important”. She watched as a guy went in and dropped of a computer, then left. Nothing unusual there she thought. Then she saw the yellow hardhat guy walking down the sidewalk. I remember him, she thought, he sure left happy! But she still watched intently. Yes, he was very happy when he left the store, but wait, he went back into the store? I don’t remember that at all? When he came out the second time, he was indeed angry, just like Kurt implied. She watched that tape over and over, he’s happy, he comes back in for something, they shake hands and he leaves unhappy? Over and over, she watches it, until it hits her. She hurriedly puts on a tape she had already watched and fast forwards it. The customer shakes hands and then leaves angry. Tape after tape, she discovers that it is the handshake that is causing the anger. It’s not anything he says, it’s when he touches them, that seems to be what causes all the anger!
