Being lucky is how Joe met Walter, Jimbo’s cousin and now his landlord. Jimbo had been praising Joe to Walter and after saying Joe was exceptionally lucky, he proposed that all three pick out an item from the heap and see if they work or not. Jimbo put on yet another pair of gloves and they walked down the stairs from the landing dock. “Here” Jimbo said, “I’ll pick this radio.” “I’ll play along” Walter said, as he picked up an interesting item unaware of what it was. That’s a wireless router said Joe, connects you to the Internet. Joe rummaged around and dug out an organ like keyboard that actually didn’t look half bad. They each carried their item up to that loading dock and sat them on a big table. Ill plug this radio in, Jimbo said, and immediately started fiddling with the knobs and buttons. “Nothing” he cried, “not even a light, I knew it! Let’s check yours Walter. He plugged in the little router and everyone waited, but nothing, not even a light on it either. Walter picked the router up and wham, wham, wham, slammed it down onto the desk three times, but still nothing. We’re waiting, they both said in unison looking directly at Joe. Joe plugged the keyboard in and a fan quietly whirred. They all heard the fan and watched silently as the light blinked on and off and then settled with three LEDs each glowing green. Well try it Joe, Jimbo exclaimed with a big smile, Show off some of your lucky to Walter. Joe touched a few keys, bon, boom, bah…..the keyboard came to life. He pushed a button on the top and boom, bah, pa, boom, bah, pa, a drum beat continued playing. Another button pressed started a horn section and the touch of a few keys soon had a beautiful little song playing just about as good as you could hope for. Looks like it works just fine guys, Joe said. A little polish and its worth about a hundred bucks.
“What did I tell you” Jimbo exclaimed as he did something that he rarely did. Jimbo smacked his cousin Walt right in the middle of his back. “I told you he was lucky”; “I knew he would win”. “I knew it would work.” Walter looked at him with a scowl, but as he turned to Joe it changed to a slight smile. “Good one, he said, that was fun. Jimbo was right, you’re okay, you ever need some help, you come find me, maybe even fix something for me, and I’ll treat you right.”
That day came sooner rather than later.
